Overview
This 8-day itinerary takes you on a journey through some of the most beautiful destinations in Sri Lanka. Starting from Colombo or the airport, you will travel to Dambulla, exploring its stunning rock temples. Next, visit the cultural hub of Kandy, where you can admire the beautiful temple of the tooth relic.
After Kandy, you will travel to Nuwara Eliya, also known as the 'Little England' of Sri Lanka, where you can witness the unspoiled natural beauty of the area. From there, travel to Ella, a picturesque spot famous for its hikes and scenic views.
Continuing on, visit Arugam Bay, which is renowned for its surfing spots and stunning beaches. A visit to Yala National Park offers the opportunity to spot the majestic creatures that call the park home. Lastly, travel to Galle before heading to Hikkaduwa, a beautiful town on the southern coast of Sri Lanka.
Finally, you will return to Colombo for checking out and transferring to the airport.

Day 1

Arrival in Dambulla
Your driver will meet you at the airport terminal with a paging board and take you to Dambulla. The main stop here is the Cave Temple, a UNESCO site with five caves full of frescoes and Buddha carvings throughout. You'll see the Golden Shrine and its golden Buddha statue with detailed artwork. If you're interested, there's an optional village safari available to explore the area more.

After breakfast, you'll head to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can see ancient frescoes of women and check out the gardens with water features. From there, you travel to Kandy to visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of Sri Lanka's most important temples said to hold Buddha's tooth from the 4th century. You'll walk around Kandy Lake on its scenic paths, stop by the Gem Museum, catch views from Kandy View Point, and finish the evening with a traditional cultural dance performance.

After breakfast, you'll visit a tea factory in the hills to see how tea gets produced and processed from the British colonial period through today, and you'll taste some excellent local teas. Next stop is Ramboda Waterfall, which drops 109 meters down the hillside. Later you head to a tea plantation and then Gregory Lake, surrounded by green hills and cloudy mountains. Before finishing up, you'll visit a viewpoint that looks out over the surrounding hills and valleys.

After breakfast, you'll take a train to Ella, and this route is one of the world's most scenic train journeys passing through tea plantations, small villages, and mountain landscapes. Along the way you'll see the Nine Arch Bridge, a historic structure crossing a high valley surrounded by vegetation. After arriving, you'll visit the Nine Arch Bridge in person, which the locals regard as an engineering accomplishment.

After breakfast and checking out from Ella, you head toward Arugam Bay on the east coast, a relaxed surfing town. On the way you'll trek to Little Adam's Peak for views over the hills, forests, and tea plantations around Ella. You'll also stop at Ravana Falls, a waterfall that drops in several tiers. Once in Arugam Bay, you can relax on the sandy beach, swim in the Indian Ocean, or walk along the shore.

This is a full day to relax at the beach. You can lie on the sand, swim in the Indian Ocean, or just sit and take in the ocean views. You'll have time to see both the sunrise and sunset from this coastal spot.

Yala National Park Safari to Galle
After breakfast, you'll go on safari at Yala National Park, the second-largest park in Sri Lanka with elephants, leopards, sloth bears, crocodiles, and lots of bird species. The safari takes you into the jungle where you can see wild animals in their natural environment and photograph them. Later you travel to Galle and check in at a beachside hotel, then spend the rest of the day by the Indian Ocean and Galle beach.

Galle City, Madu River, and Departure
After breakfast, you'll walk through Galle City and see the fort that the Portuguese built in the 16th century, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll visit Madu River to check out its mangrove forests and see birds, and stop at Cinnamon Island to learn about cinnamon cultivation and try some cinnamon products. Next you go to a turtle hatchery where you can see baby turtles, learn about conservation, and release some into the ocean. After that, you'll get dropped at the airport for your flight.
